How to Clean your Radiation Protection Apron

The Importance of Cleaning Your Apron

I think it’s safe to say that hospitals are generally known for their sterile and clean work environment. However, what happens when they are spread thin with cleaning duties, or when they repeatedly forget to clean some of their equipment?  Sometimes It may not seem like a big deal; however, these neglected actions hold serious ramifications.

According to an article published by AORN, Periop Nursing Team Discovers Ringworm in X-Ray Garments, some of the hospital staff kept receiving numerous complaints regarding how “smelly” and “gross” their X-Ray wearables were.  After further investigation of the numerous complaints, they concluded that these garments were carrying the highly contagious fungus, Ringworm.  The staff quickly realized how serious this contamination issue was, and they decided that the best thing to do was to address the issue formally.

After bringing awareness to this serious matter, the facility implemented regular cleaning schedules for their lead aprons, and other wearables.  During their routine cleanings they would use Hydrogen Peroxide wipes to ensure that the unwarranted bacteria was removed and taken care of.  The Periop Nursing Team now places a high emphasis on “doing the right thing for patient, and staff safety”.

Cleaning your apron should be done regularly, and thoroughly in order to promote a sterile work environment. Infab Corporation truly understands the threat and magnitude that sanitation plays within radiation protection gear, which is why we created our signature line.

Which Products Should You Use to Clean Your Apron?

We understand the necessity of having a sterile work environment.  By equipping you with the best cleaning products on the market, we are enabling you to increase both your quality control, and your efficiency when cleaning your garments.

When creating our cleaning products, we wanted to give you something that promoted disinfection while simultaneously being reliable in maintaining the garments integrity.    Before cleaning your apron, it’s important to take into consideration the reliability of your cleaner.  Many cleaners in fact deteriorate both the color, and the core material.   Over time, this may also cause tearing or holes, which compromises the safety of the individual wearing the garment.  The cleaners that we have engineered will not harm or deteriorate your garments in any way.  In fact, our cleaners have been tested with over 100 applications, and the results have been nothing less than perfect.

The types of cleaning products that Infab offers are the Revolution Scrubbles Lead Apron Cleaner, the Clorox Hydrogen Peroxide Cleaner Disinfectant Spray, and the Clorox Hydrogen Peroxide Cleaner Disinfectant Wipes.

Revolution Scrubbles Lead Apron Cleaner:

Infab’s signature line of apron cleaner: Scrubbles, allows you to safely rid your products of barium, blood, and other common radiology related stains.  This cleaner targets contaminants, and only leaves behind a clean citrus scent.  Scrubbles was the first cleaning solution engineered for radiation protective aprons and has been one of our most popular cleaning options since its inception.

Clorox Hydrogen Peroxide Cleaner Disinfectant Wipes:

Clorox Hydrogen Peroxide Cleaner Disinfectant Spray:
